A Trilobite Adventure
Early in 2020, I was out on my daily sanity walk when I happened upon some painted rocks along the path. They were covered in affirmations and made me smile. In a time when it was scary to be around other people, it felt like a connection to other scared humans. We were all in this together. I came home determined to do something similarly connecting.
Trilobites are the quintessential survivors. They survived many extinction events. That was something inspirational at the start of Covid 19. They changed and adapted. They made it though so many disasters. They are painted like teacups, because my morning tea has been my necessary calming space during the pandemic. It grounds me in an oasis of daily peace.
Transient, they are not intended to last forever. Rather they will go on their adventures out in the world, meet people, make friends, and move on. I’m travelling around Ottawa (and the National Capital Region) setting them free into their next life. I’m also sending them to some friends and fellow artists for them to leave around their homes and travels. Keep your eyes open and you may find one.
If you find one, send me a photo of you and the trilobite (or where you found them) for me to post here (Wandering The Wilds) and on social media (Instagram).
These trilobite sculptures are cast in hydrostone and decorated with acrylic paint.
