Egg Project

My painting teacher, Sarah Marie Lacy, said that painting eggs is excellent for learning how to paint people. Eggs have a smooth gradient that is excellent for practicing painting the curves of human bodies. This is my ongoing project to paint 30 eggs beautifully and give them odd life stories.

  • An egg on a dark green background with dice and a happy face eraser.

    Egg #10: Kalloon the Mighty

Kalloon the Mighty, Warrior of the Cardboard Mountains, was having a difficult time in the humid night. The dice gods were showing their sense of humour and now Kalloon had two small hamsters instead of a war steed.

  • Two eggs, one white and one brown, on a peach background.

    Egg #8: Anne and Shirley

Being more than a little obsessed with L.M. Montgomery, Fran and Edgar changed thier names to Anne and Shirley. To avoid jealousy, they switch names daily and take turns providing the raspberry cordial and cucumber sandwiches.

  • An egg on a pale blue background.

    Egg #7: Ducky Jr.

Ducky dreamed of the ocean. To be floating, alone and free, in the warm salt waves. Slowly floating away.

  • A cracked open egg beside a half-finished jar of golden grape jelly,

    Egg #6: Myers Redux

And, like that, he was gone.

  • An egg on an unfinished pink background.

    Egg #5: Candi

Candi works for a living. She lives for hot tubing and pink drinks with rum. She barbeques veggies and dips them in apple sauce. The she eats them in the tub.

  • An egg beside a full jar of golden grape jelly.

    Egg #4: Myers

Myers has a secret that everyone knows. There, time and place is obvious. The truth is so ridiculously clear that you need not be told. Clearly.
